There are many characteristics that govern how returned goods are assigned a cost. In general terms cost of returned goods should be consider for reselling value and assigned cost accordingly. Making an algorithm where returns is assigned cost from current average like below is only applicable in some cases. I would not assume that this variant should warrant that we make a costing model that calculate this cost automatically. Currently cost is assigned to returned items at transaction time by pulling this from the product when the line entry is done and this does approximate the method to a large extend. Some companies desire returned products directly offset original cost from by the invoice COGS and pull the cost from the invoice journal.
There will be specific companies that in their set of circumstanced can adapt a fully automated cost on returned goods like below. I do however not think this is something that we need to provide with standard costing models, but that we should stay with the current models that allow for overriding cost on the lines where goods are returned.

In AX2012 we have added specific code for dealing with returns. In case a specific Sale is returned (Return lot marked) these transactions will be closed against each other like bringing the system back to stage like the sell never occurred. The condition here is that Sell and return happens within the same costing cycle

Поэтому тут, я считаю, лучше донести (если уж предоставляется такая возможность) до сотрудников Микрософта максимум пожеланий по системе, чтобы им было из чего выбирать . Опять-таки (как я понял) - пожелания спрашиваются не столько конкретные (которые легко исправить), а глобальные - которые делать достаточно долго и которые могут влиять на концепцию системы.
