Dynamics 365 | Usability & Productivity | Advanced lookup experience in model-driven Power Apps

Lookups are a core component of model-driven apps, as they help bring underlying data relationships in Microsoft Dataverse to life.

Today, we are announcing advanced lookup – a set of usability enhancements to help you explore and find that data easily, so you are more productive with data entry tasks.

What value does it bring to business users?
  • This is a set of usability enhancements to help explore and find data easily.
  • Enabled Advanced lookup is available on any lookup column that's on a quick create form, edit form, or dialog box.
  • Advanced lookup supports customizations on lookup control through Client APIs such as addCustomView, addCustomFilter, addPreSearch and removePreSearch.
Advanced Lookups experience | Some of these enhancements include:
  • Viewing more columns when looking up a record.
  • Seeing results quickly with typeahead search.
  • Exploring data within advanced lookup without losing context.
  • Easily applying data filters.
  • Looking up multiple records in fewer clicks.
How to enable the feature
Full feature description can be found on this page of Power Apps blog.

Power Apps | Announcing Power Query dataflows for Dataverse in Teams | Preview
  • We are announcing that you can now use Power Query dataflows (preview) to load data into the web version of Dataverse for Teams in the Brazil region.
  • We are gradually rolling out to other regions, and it will be available in all regions by the beginning of July.
  • You can now upload your data from a variety of data sources using the familiar Power Query experience that also ships as part of Excel and Power BI. The ability to use dataflows in the Teams client will follow soon!
Why bring data into Dataverse for Teams?
  • Microsoft Dataverse for Teams delivers a built-in, low-code data platform for Microsoft Teams.
  • It provides relational data storage, rich data types, enterprise-grade governance, and one-click solution deployment.
  • Dataverse for Teams enables everyone to easily build and deploy apps.
  • Before today, the way to get data into Dataverse for Teams was by manually adding data directly into a table.
  • This process can be prone to errors and is not scalable.
  • But now, with self-service data prep you can find, clean, shape, and import your data into Dataverse for Teams.
    • With your master data already sitting in a different location, you can use Power Query dataflows to directly access your data through the connectors and load the data into Dataverse for Teams.
    • When data is updated in your master data, you can refresh your dataflows by just one click and the data in Dataverse for Teams is updated too.
    • You can also use the Power Query data transformations to easily validate and clean your data and enforce data quality for your Apps.
For more information on dataflows for Teams, see our documentation.

Power Apps | Portals | Introducing Table Permissions in portals Studio
  • As part of the journey to simplify portals development, we are introducing a new experience to access and set up table permissions from portals Studio.
  • Setting up table permissions is a critical step in portals development.
  • No one ever wants to accidentally expose business data.
  • Watch the walkthrough on the demo-filled page on Power Apps blog.
To learn more, check out the documentation and tutorial.

Power Apps | System Customizer | Upcoming Change |

Publishers can modify table properties on non-customizable tables through solutions

Making your managed solutions secure by disabling customization of tables is important to ensure correct behavior for your apps.

But sometimes, you might realize you have a managed solution that omits a table level property you need, like auditing.
  • We plan to release this feature in the October release for Dataverse.
  • The feature update will allow a publisher to modify table properties within their solutions even though Allow Customizations is set to off on the table.
  • This provides the level of security needed for the apps without putting speed bumps into the process of making table level changes for publishers.
  • This change will be enabled by default and no action needs to be taken.
  • The following videos demonstrate the difference in behavior that will occur in October:
To learn more, check out this page on Power Apps blog.

Power Apps | System Customizer | Upcoming Change | Relationship Validation for Solutions

Have you ever installed a solution only to find that the required relationships for lookups weren’t all present?
  • We plan to release a new feature in October to help eliminate this issue.
    • We will execute a validation check on solution import to ensure all required relationships for lookups are part of the solution.
    • If they are not, the solution import will not complete, and the user will receive an informative message about which lookup has a missing relationship so it can be easily resolved.
  • This change helps authors ensure they are publishing high quality solutions.
  • This feature will be enabled by default and no action will be needed.
For a more detailed look of it in action, please watch this video: Solution Validation of Lookup Relationships
