IDC: Software sales to hit $189 billion

Global software revenue in 2004 is expected to rise to $189 billion, according to data released by IDC this week.

This represents a rise of 6.2 percent from last year's figure of $178 billion, the market researcher said. The compound annual growth rate between 2003 and 2008 is likely to be 6.9 percent, despite challenges like security and software quality, IDC said.
